My MacBook is not recognizing my external hard drive that I use to back up my MacBook. When I plug it in it doesn't show up on the Finder Box. The external drive is a WD Passport and it has worked well for back up for some years. My MacBook has Mac OS X version 10.6.8 installed on it. What software does cricut use. Music sound software. Macbook Pro won't recognize my external hard drive.Help! My Macbook Pro suddenly stopped recognizing my external hard drive yesterday and I have no idea why. Apple image capture scanner. I've had both the Mac and the external hard drive for about a year and a half and never had any issues until now. Find Disk Utility by opening Spotlight (cmd+Space-bar) and start typing Disk Utility, press enter to open the program. Look in the column on the left to see if the hard drive appears there.

Disk Utility DOES recognize it, but doesn't let me do much with it.
It does NOT show up in System Profiler.
I have tried a different cord with no results.
This hard drive works on my PCs.
I've also noticed that when I click 'Info' in Disk Utility it recognizes it's location as 'Internal'. That doesn't seem right to me. Could that be the problem? And how do I fix it? Thanks, everyone!
